Celebrating our clinicians and all who support them

Festive New Years 2018Dear Fellows and Friends, we hope you have lots of fun this weekend. For the surgeons, physicians, nurses and therapists on call, I have been there and done that for over 30 years and understand the sacrifice you and your families make, working long hours under often stressful conditions while your neighbors are celebrating. I'm confident we all agree that the hardship is counterbalanced by the sacred trust society places in us, a trust we try so hard to merit. Those of our sisters and brothers on call New Years Eve, or more significantly this past Christmas, we are with you in spirit. Most, if not all, readers of this Newsletter are aware that those patients in hospital over holidays are sickest of the sick and/or alone. We have all experienced how an extra smile or a few extra minutes of chatting on rounds can make a big difference to those in hospital on such occasions. I hope all staff working New Years Eve also salute each other with a cup of apple juice (from the pantry if you are still allowed to do that). William Osler said "The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease". The end of 2017 has been very busy for The American College of Healthcare Trustees. Our revenues are up very significantly from the prior year and we have a very slightly positive net income. We will be happy to share our financial statements with Fellows who request it. We have a large number of dollars committed to our November 7-10, 2018 Innovation Conference at Asilomar. We have pretty much finalized the speakers list and the links to get more information and to register will be available shortly. Fellows get a substantial discount and, on top of that, there are large discounts for early and very early registration. To discuss additional discounts for affinity groups from your organization, contact Dave. Also, we have learned from other groups that it is unlikely to have a financially viable conference without sponsors so, IF YOU CAN IDENTIFY SPONSORSHIP PROSPECTS, PLEASE LET US KNOW.
